Republican Mary Littleton won Tuesday’s election to become the new member of the Tennessee House of Representatives for the redrawn 78th District that includes eastern Dickson County and all of Cheatham County. Six-term incumbent Democrat David Shepard held on to his seat in the new 69th District, holding off Wayne White for the second time. After winning a hotly contested seven-candidate GOP primary, Littleton took 58 percent of the votes across the district to defeat Democrat Linda Hayes of White Bluff and independent Rick Wilson of Pleasant View. Littleton carried both counties to total 14,070 unofficial votes to 8,451 for Hayes and 1,719 for Wilson. In the 69th District, which now includes western Dickson County, all of Hickman County and part of Maury County, Shepard won a seventh term with 55 percent of the district votes, slightly better than his margin two years ago. Shepard received 11,661 votes to 8,865 for White and 605 for independent Kenneth Buser of Lyles.
