Tonight’s adjourned session of the Dickson County Commission has been canceled. With no word coming from the Tennessee Department of Education regarding the county’s proposed budget, Mayor Bob Rial has called off the continuation of the meeting from two weeks ago. Commissioners had hoped to be able to vote on a budget and tax rate tonight. Rial has now scheduled a special session of the commission for 7 pm Monday, Aug. 5, prior to the commission’s scheduled work session. The Department of Education is examining the county’s plan to divert $800,000 in school funds to a debt payment to determine if it meets the Maintenance of Effort requirements. At last week’s school board meeting, Chairman Tim Potter again called on the commission to pass the school system budget as presented, without any funds for the county debt payment. The mayor’s office sent out an email at 3 pm Monday announcing the cancellation of tonight’s adjourned session.
