Some of the top German shepherds in the country will be competing this weekend at Dickson County High School. The Cumberland Valley Schutzhund and Police Club is hosting the 2012 United Schutzhund Clubs of America national championship for the German Shepherd breed starting today on the school’s soccer field. Schutzhund is a German word meaning protection dog. More than 60 German shepherds from across the country will compete in obedience, tracking and protection events. The dogs had to qualify with top scores from various regional competitions and will have a shot at being selected for the world competition. The event is 4-10 pm Friday, 8 am-10 pm Saturday and 8 am-3 pm Sunday. Admission is $5 and children are free.
