In a meeting Thursday night, Dickson County School Board Officials met to discuss possible revisions to the 2013-14 proposed budget which one commissioner called “irresponsible” in a previous budget committee meeting. Though no changes were suggested the budget committee still asked for the school board to revisit the proposed plan. Reductions proposed to the board for removal from the 2013-14 budget included 1 school bus and ½ of the roofing warranties. Proposed staffing budget reductions included 1 nursing position, 1 guidance position, 2 educational assistants and 2 teaching positions. The proposed reductions totaled an estimated $650,000. After looking over additional information that included the county’s fiscal capacity, per pupil expenditures, average classroom salaries, and test scores the board voted to take no action at all to the proposed budget and asked that the county commissioners pass the budget as is. The proposed budget will be presented to the Budget Committee Monday night before a public hearing is held on the entire county budget proposal for the new fiscal year.
