Pancake breakfast, 5K run/walk kick off Saturday’s events at Old Timers Days

Saturday’s schedule of activities for the 54th annual Old Timers Days celebration begins with the Civitan Club’s Pancake Breakfast and the 5th annual 5K Run/Walk and Children’s Fun Run to benefit Relay for Life. Now in its 36th year, the Civitan Pancake Breakfast is 6-9 am Saturday in the fellowship hall at Dickson First United Methodist Church on Main Street. It has become the early morning gathering place for connecting with old friends and fueling up for a full day of music and fun. Around 1,500 pancakes are served during the three-hour event, along with sausage, bacon, orange juice and a lot of coffee. Tickets for the breakfast are $6 and are available in advance from any Dickson Civitan Club member or can be purchased at the door. Proceeds benefit the club’s community efforts and scholarship program. For more information on the Civitan Pancake Breakfast, call Shirley Harlow at 477-3311. NHC Healthcare sponsors the 5K Run/Walk and Children’s Fun Run as a fund-raiser for its Relay for Life team to benefit the American Cancer Society. The event starts at 7 am in the parking lot at Dickson Electric System on Cowan Road with courses that go through downtown and wind up back at DES. The event has grown from a couple dozen participants in its first year to more than 125 runners and walkers last year. Businesses can contribute through sponsorships and participants are asked to make a donation. For more information on the 5K Run/Walk and Children’s Fun Run, contact Penny Arnold or Niki Danley at NHC at 446-8046.
