Police say children hid in bathroom as burglars break into south Dickson County home

Police say two children hid in a bathroom of their southern Dickson County home while burglars forced their way in and stole several items. A statement from Lt. Andy Davis of the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division says the children, ages 13 and 11, were able to provide officers with vehicle and suspect descriptions that led to the arrests of two brothers in Hickman County. Danny Ray Wilkins Jr., age 28, and Darell Lee Wilkins, age 22, are charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and two counts of theft over $1,000 each in connection with Dec. 19 burglaries of homes on Grindstone Hollow Road and Lecompte Road. In one of those burglaries, the two children, whose names were not released, heard someone forcing their way into the home and hid in a bathroom. Davis said it does not appear the burglars realized the children were home. After broadcasting the vehicle and suspect descriptions to area agencies, Hickman County Sheriff’s Office deputies located the Wilkins brothers while investigating a residential burglary in Hickman County. Davis said Dickson County detectives responded to Hickman County and were able to recover some property taken in both Dickson County burglaries. The Wilkins brothers are being held in the Hickman County Jail on burglary, theft and drug charges while Dickson County has placed holds on them to face charges here for the two burglaries.
