The 89th annual Dickson County Fair begins next week but those planning to participate in the Home Economics and/or 4-H Youth Departments can begin registering this week. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged and should be submitted to the UT Extension-Dickson County office no later than 4:30 pm Tuesday. All non-perishable entries in the Home Economics Department must be brought to the Crosby Center at the fairgrounds 4-7 pm Thursday, Aug. 29. Non-perishable entries in the 4-H Youth Department must be brought to the 4-H Pavilion 2-4:30 pm on Sunday. Perishable entries for the baking and plants and flowers competitions will be accepted in both departments on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 10 am-noon for Home Economics and 1-2 pm for 4-H. Entries can be registered on site in both departments; however, pre-registration is encouraged to avoid delays. A registration form for Home Ec and 4-H is on page 47 of the Dickson County Fair Catalog that came out last week. For more information on fair entries, contact the UT Extension office at 446-2788. Crops department registration will be noon-6 pm next Monday. Gates for the 89th annual Dickson County Fair open at 5 pm Labor Day with midway rides starting at 6 pm. Monday’s schedule includes the Miss Dickson County Fairest of the Fair Pageant at 7:00 and the first of three demolition derbies at 8 pm.
