After getting a thrilling overtime victory over Waverly in the District 11-AA Tournament semifinals Friday, the Creek Wood Red Hawks came up just short of a district championship when they fell 54-49 to Cheatham County Saturday night in Dover. The top-seeded Cubs held a three-point edge heading into the final period and hit enough foul shots to hold on for the five-point win and the district title. Rollie Plunkett led the Red Hawks with 14 points despite fouling out. Michael Morgan scored 11. After losing to Waverly twice during the regular season, the Red Hawks proved that it is hard to beat a team three times with an overtime victory Friday over the second-seeded Tigers. After Waverly battled back in the final quarter to tie the game and force overtime, Creek Wood outscored the Tigers 10-4 in the extra period to advance to the title game in Dover. Plunkett led Creek Wood with 26 points and Morgan added 16. Plunkett and Morgan earned All-District 11 honors and were joined on the All-Tournament team by Gabe Cummings. The runner-up finish in the tournament means Creek Wood will host a first-round game in the Region 6 Tournament at 7 pm Saturday against Fairview.
