Red Hawks rally from 15 down at half to beat Cheatham County 56-53 as CWHS sweeps

Creek Wood’s Red Hawks rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit to score a big District 11-AA victory over Cheatham County Tuesday night 56-53. The Cubs had not lost in two district contests and were tied with Waverly for first place while Creek Wood and Harpeth were tied for third at 2-1. Cheatham County used its size and physical play to build a 33-18 halftime advantage before Michael Morgan and Rollie Plunkett led a Red Hawk rally in a foul-filled second half. After cutting the margin to 11 in the third, Creek Wood opened the final frame with a 10-0 run to reduce the deficit to one point. After getting ahead by three, the Red Hawks hit enough free throws down the stretch to hold on the for the win. Morgan finished with 22 and Plunkett had 14. The Lady Red Hawks improved their hold on first place in the district at 5-0 by crushing Cheatham County 70-38. Creek Wood improves to 15-2 overall in handing the Lady Cubs their first district loss. Rachel Bell scored 20 and Lamarra Gordon added 15 in a game that went to the bench in the second half. Creek Wood continues the district battles Friday with a trip to Waverly.
