Vanleer Mayor Larry Robertson is being challenged by former Mayor B.L. Averitte in his bid for re-election to another two-year term. The two were set to face off in 2011 before the board of aldermen chose to move the election to Nov. 6. Eleven candidates are seeking one of the five seats on the board of aldermen. Incumbents Wes Albright, Dwight McIllwain and Jason Weaver qualified before Thursday’s deadline as did challengers Jimmy Bass, David Jackson, Chris Lucas, Kevin Miner, Ruben Schmittou, Donald “Bubba” Tinsley, Cherie Tinsley and Eric Weaver. Incumbents Chris Waychoff and Heather Robertson did not seek new terms.
