As part of its ongoing effort to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities involving young drivers, the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office launched a Safe Driver Reward Program that will offer prizes including a free limousine for prom night for students at Dickson County and Creek Wood high schools. Deputy Paul Montgomery, the county’s motorcycle officer who heads of the driver safety program, joined Sheriff Jeff Bledsoe, country singer Craig Morgan and school system officials in announcing the program during stops at both high schools Wednesday. “When we look at the counties around us, our numbers don’t line up,” Bledsoe told students. “Our county is showing a higher number of crashes with fatalities, with injuries, speed related, distracted driving. These are things we want to bring to your attention because you are responsible when you get behind the wheel.” A Dickson
County resident who formerly worked as an auxiliary deputy, Morgan is joining with Courtesy Limousines to provide a 14-passenger Hummer limo for a student at Dickson County and Creek Wood to use free on prom night. “We don’t want you guys to get hurt in an automobile accident and only you can prevent it,” Morgan said. “You got to make a conscious decision, when someone texts you while you’re driving, you have to not pick up the phone and text them back.” To be eligible, juniors and seniors at both schools must submit a brief essay about traffic safety and over the next seven weeks not receive a traffic citation or be at fault in an accident. Educators and law enforcement personnel also can nominate students for rewards. Students can win movie tickets, gift cards and other prizes during the program and on March 14 the winners of the limo for the prom will be announced on WDKN and The One FM during the 5 pm hour. During the stop at Creek Wood, Morgan agreed to throw in tickets to his annual benefit concert this fall. Students should submit their essays to firstname.lastname@example.org by March 13.
