Slayden ballot ends up with 1 candidate for mayor, 2 for 3 commission seats

Gary Hodges ended up the only candidate qualifying to run for the two-year term as mayor of Slayden following Thursday’s deadline. Roger Harrison, who was appointed last year after the resignation of Michael Davenport, had announced he would not seek a full term. Incumbent Mary Smathers, who was appointed to complete Harrison’s term, and Tammy Potts were the only candidates to qualify for the three seats on the Slayden Board of Commissioners. Incumbents Jerry Trotter and Deborah Smith chose not to run again. Unless someone qualifies to run as a write-in candidate, the commission will not have enough candidates on the ballot and following the election will have to appoint someone to serve the two-year term.
