Snowy roads might have been factor in fatal wreck Saturday morning on Highway 46

Hazardous road conditions might have contributed to a Saturday morning wreck that killed a Bon Aqua man. The Dickson County Sheriff’s Office reports John Robert Layne, age 75, died in a wreck on Highway 46 shortly before 8 am Saturday as an early morning snowfall left driving conditions dangerous throughout the county. A preliminary report says two pickup trucks collided on Highway 46 just south of West Iron Hill Road. A driver and passenger in the other truck were not immediately identified and the extent of their injuries was not know. Layne was taken by ambulance to Horizon Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. About half an inch of snow fell by sunrise Saturday, causing numerous accidents across Middle Tennessee and briefly shutting down Highways 96 and 48 due to extremely hazardous driving conditions. As temperatures climbed above freezing the snow quickly melted away.
