The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office’s Bomb Unit was called in Friday after a suspicious package raised alarm on the Courthouse Square in Charlotte. The package was discovered on a sidewalk outside the courthouse and while county Mayor Bob Rial said the package was not deemed to be a threat, officials decided to “err on the side of caution” and evacuated the Courthouse Annex and First Federal Bank for about two hours. Using its remote-controlled robot named Bob, the Montgomery County bomb unit determined there was not an explosive device or any other threat inside the package. In fact, it turned out to be four unopened cans of Budweiser beer. The evacuations were lifted and the courthouse square reopened shortly after noon.
