The Vanleer Volunteer Fire Department is seeking donations for an auction and benefit for the survivors of their assistant chief. The department will hold the benefit for the family of Alan “Big Al” Faircloth to help with medical and other bills suffered after he and his wife were injured May 8 when their motorcycle struck a deer on Sylvia Road. Faircloth died six days later from a severe head injury. The 28-year-old assistant chief had been a volunteer with the fire department for 13 years and was working at Baptist Hospital while studying nursing. The benefit will be Saturday, June 22, at the Vanleer Town Hall. It will include barbecue chicken plates starting at 3 pm while whole chickens will be available at noon that day. There will be a live auction starting at 7 pm with all proceeds going to Faircloth’s widow Alyssa and his family. Chief Scotty Ingham said the department is asking for any donations of items to sell for the auction. Anyone interested in donating can call 931-216-3662.
