The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT) has awarded a grant to The Discovery School to enhance its library program with interactive learning tools. The grant will fund the purchase of “Bee-Bots,” small robots designed to teach coding, programming, math, reading, and problem-solving skills.
CFMT, committed to building a stronger community, awarded over $2.8 million in grants to 438 nonprofits in 2023.
Coding promotes problem-solving, critical thinking, and logical reasoning while integrating key subjects like math, science, and reading. By learning to code, students explore mathematical concepts, improve reading comprehension through code analysis, and apply scientific methods in computational thinking, where each test yields immediate feedback.
Established in 1999, The Discovery School is home to 212 of Dickson County’s students. Our success comes from our close-knit, “family-friendly” environment and strong parent involvement, which plays a vital role in our students’ achievements during their elementary years. With a dedicated team of 34 full- and part-time staff, we focus on individualized learning to ensure every student thrives. Each day is spent thinking, discovering, and fostering success for every child!
According to their website: “The mission of The Discovery School is to empower students to become responsible and self-disciplined citizens, to encourage a spirit of discovery and exploration, to meet local and state standards, and to be academically prepared for middle school.“
